Strat Fan Forum Replay League Rules and Regulations

Updated on 6/15/24

Game:    The SFFRL will utilize the latest Strat-O-Matic Computer Football game.

Requirements:   SOM Football latest computer version, the current season auth code, an email account and to signup to our Slack Team. The league will cost no money.

League Structure:  The Strat Fan Forum Replay League is a group effort to replay an entire NFL season. Our first year all the games were played as pickup games. Starting with V8/2007 NFL Season we converted to a normal league where each coach is assigned one team. All games will be played with the current version of Strat-O-Matic Computer Football. Starting with Strat V2012 / 2011 Season we converted from a weekly league to a to one where the commish creates all the .pre files for the season and emails out each coach his .pre files for the season. On a periodic basis I will upload an updated .leag file to the cloud. It is the responsibility of each coach to re-load their needed .pre files if they choose to download the .leag file uploaded to the cloud. *ALL GAMES MUST BE PLAYED USING .PRE FILES*, do not start your game as a local game as it will not import!!! Games are not to be played as local games. ALL games are to be played live using the SOM Netplay feature vs. another human coach. Games vs. unowned teams to be played vs. the CM. Also, you must finish the game in it's entirety. If you are losing big, do not quit the game and just tell the other coach to finish up. You have made a commitment to the league through good games and bad. Honor that commitment.

League Format:  We will play the exact regular season schedule and a playoff system identical to the actual NFL set-up.  The league will use all NFL rules as it pertains to any tie-breakers unless explicitly written in the constitution.

After you play the game you can post a short re-cap in the game_recaps channel of our Slack Team. It doesn't have to be a pulitzer prize winning masterpiece, a short description of the key plays in the game will suffice.

After you play the game, email the .post and html file and post a recap of what happened in your game. Official league email is: sffrl@googlegroups.com Send all game results and any questions there.

League Pace:  In order to give coaches maximum flexibility the .pre files for all 16 games will be posted on the website for each coach to download at the beginning of the season.

Team Assignments : Teams were assigned on a first come, first served basis. My preference is for every coach to be playing their favorite team. I realize that is impossible. But please let me know which team is your favorite so that if it opens up you will be given preference over other coaches who may be attracted to the team solely for their cards.

Switching Franchises: The ultimate goal of the SFFRL is to have all coaches, coaching their favorite team.  When teams become available preference will be given to lifelong fans of that team. If more than one coach want to switch franchises I will do my best to accomodate that. I will ask each coach to tell me their favorite franchise. I will list those on the website for all to see. If you see another coach that shares the same favorite franchise as you it would be great if you allowed them to coach them for a year or for a game or two if you needed a sub. No one will be forced to change franchises but be considerate of your fellow coaches.

League Sportsmanship: SFFRL is about having fun.  This league will have a zero tolerance policy for any head coach that cannot respect their peers nor the rules of this league.  All conflicts will be decided by the commisioner (me). Typing 'LOL' or 'Unreal' or 'You are getting ridiculously lucky' during a game is considered poor sportsmanship. In Strat, things usually even out. So keep those type of comments to yourself. Scream and yell all you want on your side of the computer, but keep it civil and respectful in the chat box.

Explanation on League Options: The Strat Fan Forum Replay league started out with all games being played as pickup games. That meant no injuries, and no overusage. All games we played with teams at full-strength. I look at this league as a 'What If?' league. What if my team had stayed healthy and not been forced to start the backup QB? What if the coach had put that rookie RB who tore it up in the second half of the season from in game 1? What would happen if I ran the fullback more? You get the idea. So I have decided to go without overusage limits, without injuries and without restrictions on formations. The purpose of the league is not to see if we can re-create exactly what happened in the NFL. The purpose is to try and create a version of the season that could have happened if everything fell right for us. So here are the options I feel will make that possible:

League options to be verified prior to launching the game. If the options don't match what I have listed here it might mean you are connected via a local game and not with the .pre files:
